Meet Sasha: The Sweetest Long-Term Resident at Carteret County Humane Society

Meet Sasha: A True Gentle Giant Waiting for His Forever Home

If you're looking for a sweet, laid-back companion, look no further than Sasha. This 6-year-old American Pit Bull Terrier has been the longest resident at Carteret County Humane Society (CCHS), waiting over two years for his perfect family. It’s hard to believe, especially after spending the day with him – he’s an absolute joy!

Sasha may be a "bully breed," but don’t let that label fool you. This pup is anything but a bully. He’s a gentle, chill boy who simply wants a cozy home and a loving family. With his friendly attitude toward small dogs and his comfort around children, Sasha is ready to become a loyal and loving member of any family.

Sasha’s Day at the Studio

From the moment Sasha jumped in the car, he was the perfect gentleman. He enjoyed the ride, and once we arrived at the studio, he settled right in like he owned the place! After taking in the new surroundings and greeting our friendly UPS driver (who came with treats, of course!), we got down to business with a fun photo session. Sasha was a natural in front of the camera – no surprise there! His calm and composed personality made him a true rockstar.

We even squeezed in a few errands afterward, stopping by Lowe’s and Petsense. Sasha soaked up the attention, getting plenty of booty scratches and treats along the way. Everyone who met him couldn’t help but comment on how well-behaved he was. It’s a mystery how this sweetheart hasn’t found his forever home yet. Check out his highlight on our Instagram.

Sasha’s Journey in the Spotlight

This wasn’t the first time Sasha has been in front of the camera. I first photographed Sasha along with three other long-term shelter dogs for a community effort to help them find their forever homes. These four dogs were featured on a digital billboard in Morehead City, bringing awareness to their stories. While the other three dogs have since found loving families, Sasha is still patiently waiting for his turn. You can read more about that project here.

Sasha’s Unique Personality

Sasha describes himself perfectly on his adoptapet profile:

"I've got a heart as soft as marshmallows and a spirit as serene as a quiet lake. I don't ask for much, just a cozy corner to rest and a kind hand to pat my head. I enjoy the simple pleasures of life - a good nap, a leisurely walk, a tasty treat. I've learned to be self-sufficient, but don't let that fool you. My loyalty runs deep, and once I've given you my trust, you'll have a steadfast friend for life."

Up-to-date on his shots, neutered, and microchipped, Sasha is fully ready for his new home. He's not just looking for a family – he’s waiting for someone to see beyond the fact that he’s been in the shelter for over two years and recognize the incredible companion he truly is.

The Adoption Process

If you're considering adopting Sasha, or any of the other wonderful dogs at CCHS, here's how the adoption process works. Simply fill out the online adoption form or visit CCHS in person to complete it. You’ll need to bring a valid driver's license or government-issued ID.

If Sasha or any other pet is in foster care, be sure to call ahead to set up a meet and greet. All family members should be present to make sure the dog is the right fit. It’s important to allow enough time to get to know your potential new family member and make sure they’re the perfect match.

Help Sasha Find His Forever Family

Please consider sharing his story with your friends, family, and social media networks. You never know – your share might reach the person who’s been searching for a gentle, loyal companion just like Sasha.
